Myofascial Fascial Release

Trauma, inflammatory responses, and/or surgical procedures create Myofascial restrictions that can produce tensile pressures of approximately 2,000 pounds per square inch on pain sensitive structures that do not show up in many of the standard tests (x-rays, myelograms, CAT scans, electromyography, etc.) The medical approach is to drug patients so they temporarily are free from pain, but does ... Trauma, inflammatory responses, and/or surgical procedures create Myofascial restrictions that can produce tensile pressures of approximately 2,000 pounds per square inch on pain sensitive structures that do not show up in many of the standard tests (x-rays, myelograms, CAT scans, electromyography, etc.)
The medical approach is to drug patients so they temporarily are free from pain, but does nothing about the “straight-jacket” of pressure that is causing the pain. Traditional physical, occupational and massage therapy treats the symptoms caused by the pressure of the “straightjacket” of the Myofascial system, but does nothing about the “straightjacket” of pressure that causes and perpetuates the symptoms. This is why so many patients only have temporary results never seeming to get better with traditional therapy. Only Myofascial Release treats the entire Myofascial mind/body complex eliminating the pressure of the restricted Myofascial system (the straightjacket) that causes the symptoms

Barbara is a CT licensed physical therapist, who graduated NYU in 1988 with a B.S. in physical therapy and is the recipient of the Founders Day award for academic excellence. In 1994 she received her Master’s in orthopedic biomechanics from NYU. In 2009 she completed a 250 hour Yoga Training in Anusara Yoga, a yoga with a strong foundation in biomechanics and alignment. Additionally, she has studied restorative yoga, yin yoga and advanced teacher training. She is certified in SFMA, a detailed testing process to identify movement based restrictions. She is involved in educating professionals on the use of myofascial self care for guiding the healing process. She also is a teaching assistant for John Barnes Method of Myofascial Release. Barbara has many years of manual therapy training in craniosacral therapy, muscle energy and soft tissue mobilization as well as biomechanical evaluation and analysis of movement. In 2010 she began to train exclusively in the John Barnes myofascial release method. Barbara has a unique approach to treatment, deeply rooted in the belief that unlocking the fascial system results in a powerful release of physical and emotional pain and restrictions. Yoga therapeutics, breathing and positioning combined with myofascial release is a highly effective treatment with powerful results. Treating the patient’s entire system, carefully analyzing movement patterns and utilizing hands-on techniques, creates a treatment that is individualized for your unique issues. The integration of all of these manual treatments is a safe, nurturing and highly effective method to treat problems where other therapies have failed. At Soulcare Physical Therapy, I believe in treating the whole person and inspire my patients to participate in their recovery and the pursuit of optimal physical health and well being.
